Dr. Jendro was individually selected for a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. As a breast surgical oncology fellow, Dr. Jendro studied under Dr. Charles Cox, a renowned pioneer in breast surgery. Her training at Moffit, under Dr. Cox, focused on best surgical methods for treating both benign and malignant breast disease. Dr. Jendro has been published in the Journal of Surgical Oncology for “Early Experience with Ultrasound Features after Intrabeam Intraoperative Radiation for Early Stage Breast Cancer.”
In addition to her extensive surgical training, Dr. Jendro has operated as a Breast Surgical Oncologist for over eight years with UNC Rex Hospital. During this time at UNC, she served with distinction as Chair of the UNC Rex Breast Care Committee. This committee, led by Dr. Jendro, was responsible for meeting national standards for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC). Her leadership as chair, coupled with collaboration from physicians in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, and Radiology, was essential in maintaining these esteemed accreditations at UNC Rex Hospital.
After tabulating national patient satisfaction data, Dr. Jendro was chosen to receive the Five Star Excellence Award for “Scoring in the Top Ten Percent Nationally for Excellent Responses in Surgical Services and Overall Quality of Physician Care.” At UNC, Dr. Jendro was an integral part in developing the multidisciplinary breast conference where patients are presented for collaborative discussions between surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, genetic counselors, social workers, and clinical trials teams. Her contributions to this conference helped establish personalized treatment plans for patients with the collaboration of all disciplines to ensure the best outcome.
Dr. Jendro brought her vast knowledge and experience to CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital to develop the Multidisciplinary Clinic (MDC) for evidence-based standards of care for the women of Lincoln. As of June, 2021, Dr. Jendro was designated to serve as the sole Breast Surgical Oncologist for CHI Health St. Elizabeth MDC. Medical advances that Dr. Jendro has brought to the community of Lincoln include radioactive seed localization for nonpalpable breast lesions. This identification method allows precise targeting of breast lesions in preparation for surgery. Radioactive seed localization helps the patient by detecting a breast lesion with improved accuracy resulting in a less invasive surgical procedure. Patients can exhibit improved surgical outcomes coupled with exceptional cosmetic results. Further medical advances that Dr. Jendro has championed include the Kubtec MOZART Specimen Tomosynthesis Imaging System. This technology is stated to enhance visibility of breast lesions in dense tissue. These 3D images can result in improved patient outcomes due to reducing the amount of healthy tissue excised from the breast intraoperatively.
Dr. Jendro works closely with multidisciplinary teams in Lincoln to ensure the absolute best comprehensive plan of care for her breast patients. Dr. Jendro treats all benign and malignant breast disease. These include, but are not limited to, breast cancer, benign breast masses, breast cysts, breast pain, and nipple discharge. She also treats patients who are high risk for developing breast cancer due to family history and/or markers such as atypical hyperplasia. Dr. Jendro performs lumpectomies, oncoplastic reductions, mastectomies, nipple and skin sparing mastectomies, excisional biopsies, ultrasound guided biopsies, and placement of venous access catheters. She is certified in breast ultrasound by the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
The passion Dr. Jendro exhibits on a daily basis is reflected in the comments of those under her care. Patients of Dr. Jendro routinely state that they have never felt alone, as Dr. Jendro remains with them through their entire medical journey.
